Association of Wine-producers Carso – Kras:
over 2000 year of history
The Karst is in a transition zone between the Mediterranean climate and continental foothills climate. The average annual temperatures are around 12.5 °C with slightly lower values around the northern ridge and the Vallone goriziano area, while milder conditions are found along the coast.
The geographical area assigned to the production of DOC “Carso – Kras” wines is an area characterized by the presence of karst phenomena, i.e. bare rocky surfaces with an orography that consists of rocky outcrops and depressions. All of this constitutes a significant limitation for the agricultural use of the land. In addition, from a hydrographical point of view, the Karst is characterized by the presence of caves and caverns, which help to drain all the rainwater in a short time.
The grape production area suitable for the production of wines with the denomination of controlled origin “Carso - Kras” includes the entire administrative territory of the municipalities in the Province of Trieste and all the territory of the municipality of Doberdò del Lago and part of the municipalities of Monfalcone, Ronchi dei Legionari, Fogliano-Redipuglia, Sagrado and Savogna d'Isonzo in the Province of Gorizia.More >
